To make a sword, take the widest scrap leftover from axemaking and cut little squares away from either side of the top. Then cut elongated triangles further down, creating a cross guard. Taper the rest of the blade into a point. The illustration shows how a dagger can be made from a carrot slab itself, rather than a thinner piece of carrot.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://savagesisters.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/makingcarrotax.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Making Carrot Ax</image:title><image:caption>To make an axe, slice a notched piece from under the axehead and along the length of the handle on one side. Turn the 3-pound coffee can upside down. Use the can opener to punch triangular holes at intervals below the bottom of the can, which has of course now become the top of the can. The holes at the stove’s top will allow oxygen to feed the lighted burner below. The holes don't show up well on the dark coffee can, so we're using a juice can here to illustrate.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://savagesisters.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/pourwax.jpg</image:loc><image:title>pourwax</image:title><image:caption>4. Using a potholder to prevent burns, slowly pour the wax over the coiled paper, and let it soak in well. Allow it to cool. Take care not to splash the hot wax on yourself or on the stove. If you make several tuna-can burners (also known as buddy burners) at once, you won’t run out of heat before the food you’re cooking on the hobo stove is done.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://savagesisters.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/meltwax.jpg</image:loc><image:title>meltwax</image:title><image:caption>3. With pliers, crease the rim of the soup can to make a pouring spout. Heat an inch or two of water in a pan on a stove burner or other heat source. (An adult should supervise this part.) Put a piece of paraffin or candle stubs (two or three ounces is plenty) in the can, and set the can in the hot water. When the wax melts completely, turn off the heat.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://savagesisters.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/rollpaper1.jpg</image:loc><image:title>rollpaper1</image:title><image:caption>2. Lay a 4-inch piece of string across the end of the strip, letting a half an inch or more stick out from either side. Roll the strip tightly around the string. Add more strips until your coil of paper is the right size to fit inside the tuna can. Press the coil down inside, making the surface as even as possible. Be sure the string wick projects from the center. The tighter the coil, the longer it will burn.</image:caption></image:image><image:image><image:loc>https://savagesisters.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/stringcan.jpg</image:loc><image:title>stringcan</image:title><image:caption>1.
